‘jenerous’ takes Law and Ethics in Fundraising seriously and follow the FIA (Fundraising Institute of Australia) standards. 

We assume you will have the same ethos when practicing fundraising.

 

The Privacy Act 1988 regulates 'information privacy'. The Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) are the base line privacy standards that your organisation must comply with in regulation to the personal information it holds. Note that new principles have come into on March 12th, 2014.

 

There are 13 principles that must be applied and as a service to the charity clients, there must be protocol in PCI and what as the CSR should be disclosing to the donor about their details on the direct mail campaign materials, online and over the phone, following the APPs new law when handing donor's details in all contexts.

According to the FIA Fundraiser’s Promise to Donors the following information need to disclose to a donor or potential donor when fundraising: All charities must comply with the National Privacy Principles and Information Privacy Principles which

can be found on the Office of the Privacy Commissioner’s website. Under FIA’s Principles and Standards of Fundraising Practice, when soliciting donations, the charity must provide contact details such as the name of the charity, street

address, website and telephone number. Donors should be informed of what the intended use of the donation is,

the charity’s mission and an accurate description of the charity’s activities. Upon request, a charity must supply

the most recent annual report, constitution, and if relevant, details of the source from which the charity

obtained the donor’s contact information, the person in the charity handling donor complaints and if the

fundraiser soliciting the donation is an employee of the charity, an employee of a supplier of fundraising

services or a volunteer.
